ROBBED A WIDOW
MAGISTRATE ANGRY
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, 29th October. "1 won't sentence him to-day in the mood I am in. I might give him. too much," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, 8.M., in remanding until to-morrow Archie Victor Budge, aged 41, a salesman, who appeared on charges of obtaining £50 from a widow by fraud, stealing her watch and chain, and attempting to obtain sums of £50 from a boarder in her house. Tho accused was arrested in and extradited from Sydney on a charge of stealing a promissory note for £60. After hearing the evidence Mr. Hunt said that the accused was a heartless rogue who robbed a struggling widow who actually borrowed the money to lend to him. Accused's counsel said the woman was prepared to let him go free if he made restitution. Mr. Hunt: "Do you think I would let a blackguard like that go free?" He then made the statement quoted in the opening sentence.
