INSURANCE CLAIM

ALLEGED FALSE DECLARA-^ TION

On 16th April-aShed on the farm of Gilbert ■ Hamilton- M'Mecking, at Ohariu Valley was destroyed by fire, and subsequently the State Fire Office paid £400 in respect of a policy covering the contents of the shed.

To-day in the Supreme Court before Mr. Justice MacGregor and a jury of twelve, M' Meeking stood his trial on a , charge of making a false declaration with intent to mislead the State Fire Insurance Office into' believing that a manure distributor and a separator and its motor had been destroyed in the fire. He was further charged with obtaining £45 (the insured value of the manure distributor and separator and motor) by a false pretence.

The Assistant-Crown Prosecutor (Mr. C. Evans-Scott) appears for the Crown, and Mr. H. R. Biss for the accused.
