HOURS OF PLAY
In view of the fact that there has been some misunderstanding of the position regarding the present series of. matches under the new cricket rules in force this season, a statement haa been made on behalf of the Wellington Cricket Association's Management Committee as follows: "Neither rules 50 (a) nor 50 (b) have reference to the second day's play, which, of course, comes directly under M.C.C. rules for the last day's play in a two-day match. As no team batted for the four hours as provided by Kule 50 (a), teams are at.liberty to continue the first innings or decline their innings closed as they desire. Teams are not bound to rule 00 (a) to continue until four hours have been played. Thus, if three hours ten minutes have been played, there is no obligation on the part of the batting side tv continue for a further fifty ■minutes. On the other hand, the batting side may continue as long as it desires, or declare before the expiration of the fifty minutes."
