LONG NON-STOP FLIGHT
USE OF "ROBOT PILOT*
(British Official' Wiroless.) KUGBY, 27th October.
A Koyial Air' Force Fairey-Napier long-distance monoplane left th« Cranaerodrome (Lincolnshire) at 6.45 o'clock this morning on a' non-stop flight of 2857 miles to the Abu Sueir aerodrome, Egypt, where it is expected jto arrive at midday to-morrow. , The machine is being flown by ! Squadron-Leader Gayford and FlightLieutenant Bett. They will make areturn flight on 6th November, reaching Malta that day and continuing to Cranwell on tho following day. At a later date an attempt will bo made upon the existing non-stop record of 4911! miles when a flight will be made to South Africa. Tho monoplane is equipped with a normal service Napier-Lion engine. It has a wing span of 82 feet ana its length is 48 feet, while it is equipped with wireless and an apparatus called a "robot pilot." . The machine passed over Paris shortly after 10 o'clock and is expected to pass Tunis at dusk this evening. It was reported over the Straits of Bonifacio at six o'clock this evening, flying blind in thick clouds.
LONDON, 27th October. 'Gayford and Brett are approaching Tunis. They arc behind time, due to delay by head winds.
