URGENCY OF TRANSPORT CONTROL
Now that the balance of the session may be reckoned in days it is certain that some measures will have to be sacrificed. The Transport Control Bill should not bo one of these. There has been far too much delay already, and, as the Government has [ committed itself to a minor measure of rural derating, it should not fail to place on the Statute Book provision for the transport control which should precede derating. Every year of postponement adds to the confusion and increases the difficulty of straightening out a transport muddle which is one of the most expensive extravagances yet indulged in by New Zealand. There is really no reason for postponing the Bill. The subject has been under examination for years. All the main facts bearing upon it have been ascertained and Parliament has already debated the main principles. If members will apply"themselves to this important issue seriously they can dispose of it this session without difficulty.
