ADVICE TO MR. MASTERS

MR. WILKINSON INTERVIEWED

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLTHAM, This Day. Interviewed by an "Argus" representative regarding the Hon. E. Masters's contemplated contest of the Egmont seat, Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, the sitting member, said that he would be very pleased to meet Mr. Masters in the coming contest, but was of opinion that Mr. Masters should consider contesting Mr. Atmorc's seat and thus demonstrate his fitness to hold the office of Minister of Education as against the Minister whom ho superseded. It was high time also, that Cabinet Ministers should bo representatives with majorities in their electorates, their being one Cabinet Minister with no constituents and four others, namely, Messrs. Jones, Hamilton, Stewart, and Young, all minority representatives. In fact, the last four gentlemen polled no fewer than 3464 votes less than their combined opponents. Mr. Wilkinson also stated that there ■would be a largo number of Independent candidates in the field, there being ,1 growing feeling that the policy of the Coalition Government was not the policy to lift the country out of the slough of depression at present ingThe matter was also commented upon "by Mr. 11.I1. Gawith, tho official Reform candidate for Egmont. Mr. Gawith said that he had not been approached on Mr. Masters'^ behalf, and in any case he had no intentions of retiring from the contest, much less for Mr. Masters.
