ELECTION IN BRITAIN

END OF CAMPAIGN FINAL APPEALS TO VOTERS MARKET IN MAJORITIES

(British Official Wireless.) (Received 27th October,, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, 26th October. The election campaign ends tonight, when almost every large hall in the constituencies in which contests are taking place has been engaged for meetings at which the candidates will make their final appeal to the electors. With one or two exceptions, in which extremists have caused hostile demonstrations, the campaign has proceeded normally and candidates have been given fair hearings. Broadcast appeals have greatly assisted in clearing the issues before the electors, and very heavy polling is anticipated. While the leaders of both sides ex-press-confidence in the result, detached observers look for a large majority for the National Government, the Stock Exchange market in majorities to-day standing at 195 to 200. Tho Prime Minister, who made his final broadcast appeal on Saturday night, rested yesterday in preparation for to-day's whirlwind tour of his scattered constituency. Mr. Stanley Baldwin returned to London, yesterday following his tour of the northern constituencies, which, it is stated, hns strengthened his convic•tion that tho Government will secure a handsome majority. The National Liberal Leader, Sir Herbert Samuel, remained in his constituency, in which the result of the polling is in some doubt. Mr. Arthur Henderson, the Opposition Loader, was taken ill at Burnley last night, and is confined to his room.
