CHANGE IN THE WEATHER
Tho weather for the holiday was for the most part fair to fine, although a few scattered showers were experienced in districts with a westerly aspect. A moderate depression has crossed the Dominion, causing moderate westerly or south-westerly winds to prevail. At present there is an anti-cyclone moving to the north of New Zealand, whilst a new and rather intensive depression of the westerly type is advancing from the Tiisman Sea. Tho latter has already caused north-westerly winds to freshen in and south of Cook Strait. This morning a, north-westerly gait was blowing at Puysegur Point, but, although a few showers wnrc reported from western districts, the weather was still fanto fine generally. j Auckland had a cool and showery day yesterday, with a south-westerly breeze. In Wellington it was brilliantly fine, what little wind there was being from the north. Christchurch had a fine and sunny day, and so did Dunediu, but in tho latter city there was a strong southwesterly wind. Moderato south-westerly winds, which will subsequently veer to the northwest, may bo expected north of New Plymouth and East Cape. Elsewhere moderate to strong north-westerly winds will reach gale force in places. Fair-, warm, and hazy weather is to be expected in eastern districts, but western ami i.ii southern districts are in for a spill of cloudy and unset tied weather, with ruin (leveloping. Souiu heavy falls of rain aro probable on the West Const of tho South Island, and weather of a generally unsettled typo is likely later lo becuinr.1 fairly Avidcspread.
