DELANEY AND THORNTON

MEN WITH RECORDS

Three well-known boxers, V. Parker, K. Thornton, and E. Delaney, arrived at Wellington to-day by tho Ulimaroa from Sydney. Delanejy who is the lightweight champion of Australia, is under contract to the Wellington Boxing Association to- meet Keg. Trowern at Wellington on lGth November. Delaney. has been boxing for four years, and all told has competed in about 50 professional bouts. His last fight in Australia was when he defeated Kns Critcher, tho welterweight champion of Australia.. Dclanoy won tho lightweight championship from Norman Gillcspio, whom he knocked out in tho fifth round. Earlier this year he successfully defended the title against Bobby Stone, knocked out Roy Storey, one of the leading welterweights of Australia, and knocked out Jimmy Kelso in the fourth round. Prior to entering tlic boxing world Delaney was ;i jockey, but ho became too heavy to ride, and took to the ring instead. Thornton is the ex-middleweight champion of Australia. Ho has been boxing for two years, and out of 61 contests has only been defeated on two occasions. About three months' ago ho fought Ambrose Palmer at Melbourne for tho middleweight championship and defeated him. In a. return match about a month ago, however, ho lost on pointsto Palmer. Thornton hopes to bo. matched with Eddie Parker, tho middleweight champion of New Zealand. ' .".'. Parker is a New Zealandcr and a brother to Eddie Parker. He has been iii Australia for about two years, and lost only three out of 27 contests. Parker is not booked to meet anyone in Now Zealand, but will challenge any woltorweight. Ho won tho light heavyweight amateur championship two or three years ago at Christchurch. Tho manager of tho team is Sammy Chapman, who also handles Jack O'Malley, . the heavyweight champion of Australia, who is at present in New Zealand.
