LONDON, 25tb October.
The Colonial Office, in a, communique, states that last night's telegram from Sir Ronuld Storrs indicated that the situation was quiet, although still tense. No British officials .or civilians have been injured. Precautionary measures are being taken to ensure the continued safety of British women and children.
A message from Nicosia states that at the request -of Sir Ronald Storra four bombing 'planes have arrived from Egypt. They are not equipped with bombs, but with email arms, and 'are intended for demonstrations rather than -active measures. They will be useful in the event of recalcitrants beginning a guerrilla resistance in the hills. ■ ■
The warship. Colombo'arrived at Famagusta and landed a naval party, enabling the troops to return,to.Nicosia to prevent a recurrence of trouble ia the capital.
Meanwhile eight Vickers-Victory machines made demonstration flights to Nicosia, Famagusta, Limasol,. and Paphos. Paphos" possesses undesirable elements which are restive. The Greek Orthodox Archbishop, seeking to interview the Governor, snid that he could not be responsible for the crowds uajess the arrested ringleaders were released. Sir Ronald Storrs replied: "We are responsible and shall take any steps necessary to restore order." The arrested leaders aTe at present oe. the cruiser London,.awaiting deportation.
