REFERENCE IN HOUSE
The Education Committee submitted a special report to 'the House of Representatives this afternoon, placing on record its appreciation of the services rendered by Mr. Atmore during his term of office as Minister of Education, and expressing sincere regret that the Coalition had resulted in his vacating office. The Committee stated that it trusted Mr. Atmore's services would not be long lost to the Dominion, and that the recommendations of the Keeess Education Committee would shortly be given effect to.
"I wonder what the Government is going to do about this," said Mr. M. J. Savage (Labour, Auckland West). "The Government deliberately got rid of this honourablo gentleman, and here we have'the Education Committee, 1 take it with the support of the Government, expressing regret at the action of the Government. I suggest that they resign straight away." (Laughter.)
Mr. J. S. Fletcher (Independent, Grey Lynn) expressed regret that the Education portfolio had been removed from the House to the Legislative Council.
