SHANGHAI, 20th October
The first batch of delegates to ihei forthcoming Nanking-Canton Peaccj Conference has arrived from Canton*
The conference is the direct outcome of the Japanese invasion of Manchuria, and entirely replaces ihej civil war for which both sides were preparing prior to the Manchurianj crisis.
President Chiang Kai-Shek personally welcomed the delegates, whose shelving of personal differences mi the present national crisis clearly reveals the intensity of Chinese feeling towards Japan. That the conference will produce a new and more vigorous national parly, including several} valuable statesmen hitherto prefer* ring obscurity, is undoubted. Shanghai is merely the venue ofl preliminary meetings. The date of the conference, which will be held at Nanking, is unsettled.
