ASSOCIATION MEETING

ELECTION OF COUNCIL

CHRISTCHUROH, 20th October

The annual meeting of thij New Zea^ land Golf Association was held this even, ing, the vice-chairman, Mr. A. D. S. Duucan, presiding.

The Timaru delegate, Mr. W. H. Walton, criticised the amount that had been spent on professionals' prize-money and expenses. The burden on small clubs, he said, should be reduced. After some discussion, the chairman said ho would bring the whole matter under the notice of the council.

The following council was elected:—Sir Alexander Roberts, Messrs. A. D. S. Duncan, W. E. A. Gill, W. A. Kiely, M. J. Crombie, E. Page, and Colonel R. 0. Chesney. Sir Cyril Ward moved that the Golf Council give consideration to the question of reverting to the old method of holding amateur and open championships. He said he considered the old method of. qualifying for the amateur championship was the best test of golf. The motion was carried after some discussion.
