Under a bombardment of eh air* hurled from the front ranks-of, an angry crowd of 20,000 which filled the Birmingham rag market, Six Oswald, Mosley arjd his principal supporters retired from the riotous meeting through a small back door. j •" ■ ; } Before matters came to this pass, Sir Oswald himself, in the absence of his husky henchman, Kid Lewis, the noted boxer, used his fists on his attackers. The disturbance broke out when because of a defective amplifying mechanism Sir Oswald could not make himself heard. Stewards tackled the rowdies/after which the crowd became hostile and rushed the platform amid the shrieks of women. ! :
After Sir Oswald escaped, 100 constables entered amid flying furniture, but could noj; restore order until every, chair had been: smashed and the barriers on the platform; damaged.
