MALFROY BEATEN
TENNIS IN ENGLAND
(From "The Post's" Representative.) LONDON, 11th September.' C. E. Malfroy, the Now Zealand tennis player, has been compoting in the South of England Lawn Tennis Tournament. Ho had a walk-over iv the second round of the singles, and met ¥. D. 11. Wildo iv tho third round. Malfroy won, as he was expected to win, but ho was made to work. In the second set Wilde lost the first game to fifteon, but every subsequent game went to deuce, and in two of them douco was called twice. "Malfroy servod well," writes "The Times" correspondent, "and his volleying had a beautiful touch. Wilde made some glorious strokes, but his service was simply lamentable." The score was 8-6, 60. In the fourth round Malfroy mot J. Satoh and was beaten. Satoh gave a brilliant exhibition of the game, and took charge of tho play from the start. He seemed almost incapable of doing anything wrong. The score was 0-1, 6-1.
Malfroy and Wildo have been playing together in the men's doubles. In the second round they beat M. Temple; and F. Henkcl, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. In the third round they beat Major C. F. Scroope and H. F. Cronra,'6-2, 6-2.
