NOT ALL OVER YET

Since last night there lias been a rise in barometers over most of the Dominion. But in the far south pressure lias continued as low as ever, with the consequence that the pressuro gradient from. Cook Strait southward is even more steep than it was yesterday. Strong winds have continued to blow from some westerly quarter, with an occasional backing in places to the south-west. Changeable and squally weather, with raiu at times in districts with a westerly aspect, has continued. In the Foveaux Strait area conditions have been particularly severe, and heavy hail showers have fallen there. Eastern districts have escaped rain, except in the hill country well back from the coast. Arthur's Pass has continued to have heavy rain, and the dust there should be well laid by this time, seeing that yesterday's fall of 214 points brings the last three days' total to over eight inches. Auckland experienced a fine day yesterday with a fresh south-westerly wind. Showers fell there last night, but only three points of rain were recorded. In Wellington a strong and squally north-west wind was the reverse of pleasaut, but, although it was cloudy at times, no rain fell. Yesterday was a sunny day in Christchureh, although a boisterous north-wester prevailed. Dunedin had unsettled weather, with heavy rain and hail showers. Strong westerly winds are still likely to reach gale force in places, with heavy gales in some localities in and south of Cook Strait. Winds will later back to tho south-west. Changeable and squally weather is likely to continue for "the present, with further heavy showers in districts with a westerly aspect. -Rniu will extend*later to I the eastern parts of (he country. I Thunder ami hail showers are probable in parts ot tho South Island. Temperatures may be expected to become fouler.
