CRICKET
PLUNKET SHIELD DATES
MATCH AGAINST AUCKLAND
It is possible that there will be some alteration to the dates originally suggested by the Wellington Cricket Association for the Plunket Shield match against Auckland this season, as the result of a letter received at the weekly meeting of the local Management Committee last night from the Auckland Association. Mr. P. B. Broad presided over a full attendance of members. It was previously suggested that the Christmas dates—2sth, 20th, 28th, and 29th December—should be set asidfe for the match, but Auckland advised that those dated had been proposed for the Otago-Auckland match at Auckland. It was suggested that four days about 22nd January (Anniversary Day) should be set aside for the Auckland-Wellington matchat Wellington. A variation of the usual arrangements was not favoured, as Christmas and New Year dates in Auckland had always been of very great benefit to the touring teams. When the matter was under consideration it was stated that Wellington was obliged to consider the wishes of the travelling teams for this season, and, on the suggestion of the chairman, it was decided to hold the matter over until Auckland and Otago. have come to an agreement regarding their fixture. Wellington and Canterbury are to meet at Wellington during the New Year holiday season. A KILBIRNIE REQUEST. A request was received from tlie Kilbirnie Club that the Hutt and Petone teams should play some of their matches on the Kilbirnie ground. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Senior Fixtures Committee, and a similar decision was reached with regard to a request from the Institute Club that the senior fixtures for the season, should be published before the season started. It was stated that the schedule of matches prepared at present was liable to be altered as required. It was decided. to support a suggestion from the Otago Association that Parliament should be appealed to to extend the summer time period until after Easter. Mr. L. J. Brabin was given permission to take a junior team to Levin for a mid-week one-day match towards the end of next month. With regard to the Karon Club s request for junior wickets to be laid down at Karori Park, Mr. L. J. Brabiu reported that he had conferred with the Director of Parks and Reserves, who had stated that the request could probably be met this season. PAYMENT OF CLUB FEES. , A recommendation by the treasurer, Mr. W. J. R. Christophersen, with regard to the payment of club dues was adopted on the motion of the chairman. The fees will fall due as follows:—Practice wicket fees, affiliation fees, and first one-fifth of ground fees on ?lst October; club-room fees and second one-fifth of ground fees on 30th November; the remaining fifths of the ground fees on 31st December, 3Ut January, and 28th February respectively. It was stated that the arrangement would give clubs some measure of relief at the commencement of the season. The chairman pointed out that the arrangement holds good only for this season. It was reported that there was a possibility that all the grade competitions would not be started on Saturday, as some of the grounds were not available. The secretary (Mr. A. Varney) reported that the caretaker of the Basin Reserve had informed him that two of the practice wickets on tlie ground would not be available until the middle of December. It w,as left with Mr. Varney to attempt to make some arrangement satisfactory to the Marist and Railway Clubs_ as regard* practice wickets in the meantime. DATE FOR ANNUAL MEETING. Mr. Brabin asked whether it would h* possible to hold the annual meeting » week earlier each year, as the present date did not give sufficient time for the entries to be received and allocated to ■ the different grades before the season commenced. Mr. Broad said that the difficulty lay with the necessity for the treasurer to have his balance-sheet prepared and audited prior to the meeting, and Mr. Varney remarked .that if it were held too early tlie players' minds were still" occupied with football,. Mr. J. Hanna said that he had always thought the association would be better organised if the annual meeting were held earlier, and Mr. Broad said it wasonly a matter of circularising the clubs. SENIOR FIXTURES. The fixtures for the opening of the Senior A season on Saturday are as follows: — Kilbirnie v. Petone, at Kilbirnie. University v. Institute, at the Basin Reserve, No. 1. Wellington v. Midland, at the Basin Reserve, Xo. 2. Old Boys v. Hutt, at Hutt.
