A CRICKET BUDGET

TO RAISE AND SAVE MONEY

UNCERTAIN POSITION

The need tor the utmost economy as well as the desirability of augmenting the association's funds to the greatest possible extent by increasing the number ot honorary members was stressed by Mr. W. J It. Christophersen, treasurer of the Wellington Cricket Association, in presenting his statement of estimated income and expenditure to the Management Committee at its weekly meeting last night. Mi. Chnstoplicrsen considered that the finances were in such a precarious position, particularly in view of the necessity to provide this year for the off-season next year when, unless an overseas Bide visits New le* land, there will be only one representative match in Wellington, that the annual Town v. Country match could not be considered unless the Country players paid all their own expenses. It was decided to postpone consideration ot the ouagec until the next meeting, when the lown v. Country match will also be discussed. The treasurer's, statement included the foliowing principal items on the credit side-.-Club subscriptions £157 13s; ground fees £715; net gates tor club matches, £75*: net proceeds of representative matches: Canterbury v. Wellington, £125; Auckland v. Wellington, £110; honorary membership subscriptions, £225; total income, £1482 13s. On the other side of the ledger were the following items:— Ground charges, £745; cost of trip to Otago, £125; general expenses, £156 lhe honorary members' subscriptions are to pc transferred to the coaching fund, and the estimated profit on the general account is a little over £86. It was recognised that the honorary members' subscriptions could only bo made to reach the amount estimated as the result of an intensive canvassing campaign. - THE COACHING FUND. In the coaching fund at the end of August there was a balance of £140 15s lid. It was estimated to receive towards the fund, in addition to the honorary members' fees, a refund of £75 from the* New Zealand Cricket Council and £30 in coaching fees. On the expenses side there was £300.t0.be paid in salary, and £20 for materials. "We have got to play for a draw at least," said Mr. Christophersen after he> had placed his proposals before the committee. . He considered that the amount allowed for the touring of junior representative teams would have to be reduced to a minimum. In reply to a query from Mr. Broad as to whether the junior representatives could fulfil their engagement with Auckland at Wellington, and with Canterbury at'Christchurch under a grant of' £25, Mr. Brabin said that it would be best to leave the matter over for the present.' . 1 Regarding the Town y. Country match, Mr. Broad said it was doubtful whether a two-day match of that nature could fulfil the purpose for which it was intended. Mr.:.K. A. Whyte said that the Hawkes Bay Association .was strongly in favour ol the match being continued, but other niembers held that it was differently regarded by other country districts.
