Sir William Orpen, the distinguished artist, \rho died in London on Wednesday, v/as one of the most versatile and provocative artists of his generation. Some of his most brilliant work was dono as official artist on the Western Front. When afterwards he painted a picture of the Versailles Conference, almost all the most famous statesmen and soldiers iv the world sat for him. Many of his later pictures aroused much controversy.
