Further speeches were made on the unemployment problem by nicmibera of tho Labour Party in' the House of Representatives yestorday afternoon. ,' Boferring to the rate o£ pay in the unemployment camps, Mr. J. O'Brien (Labour, Westlaiid) said that at'Sid per yard it would take a hef tyman to make ,2s 6d per duy on relief work. Some of tho men would not earn more than 6d per day. Tho camps would not solve the unemployment problem, as they were only stop-gaps, and: the 'policy would result in the men's ambition being killed. , Mr. R. Semple (Labour,. Wellington Bast) said that. be did nbt object the camps themselves, but to the wages that were being paid to the. young men. Tho money they were receiving would not buy clothing for them. ,Tbe Government's unemployment policy was stultifying tho ambition of the young men and making Communists of a number of them. Ho mado a plea' for the development of secondary industries. Mr. H..G. R. Mason (Labour, Auckland Suburbs), said that the Volume of currency was'inadequate'to' maintain prices at a stable level,
