KARORI
The Karori Club year was officially' opened in the presence of a big attendance bf members and visitors by the president of the club, Mr. G. Gapes, In the absence of; Mrs. Gapes, Miss Myrtle Gapes acted as hostess'for the after-, noon.' ■ • - \ • In declaring the season open, Mr. Gapes welcomed the visitors, and in doing so said that he had received apologies for absence from the; Mayor (Mr T. C. A. Hislop), Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P.. and Mr. M Hodgins, president of the Centre. Mr. Gapes regretted that there would, b3 no play during the afternoon, as the green was1 too damp. He: called the attention of the members to i-uprbvements about the green which had been carried out by voluntary labour during the off season. Ho wished specially to thank the men who had been responsible for the work. The Member, for. the district, Mr. E. A. Wright, then gave a short-address. The first kitty was sent Sown by Misb Gapes, and then a bowl each was sent down by. Mr. Wrighfcaiid the following threo foundation members:, Messrs. W. Bradnok, T. Campbell,, and W. IV Newcombe..Afternoon,'tea was served in the pavilion. ~ ■• .. ■ The Island - Bay Bowling Club, will open the season next Saturday.'
