SOUP KITCHEN CLOSED
:'■•', The Inter-church Social Committoe aij Berhamporo.decided to close the soup kitchen as .from.3oth September. This was opened at St. Outhbort'sHall, Bcrhamporo; -during the first week in June;,and supplied soup on six days per week until Ist September, since when the supply was reduced to four days per week. No less than 1200 gallons of soup hav.e ibeen made in tho kitchen an supplied to a an average of 30 needy local families daily, together with an average of 30 men on relief works on five days per week. In addition, bread has-been supplied daily with the soup: St. Cuthbert's Hall has been a food dopotas well as a soup kitchen, and the workers have given out scones, cakes, vegetables, and meat almost daily. The closing of the soup kitchen, it is stated, does not moan that the Intorchurch Social Committee will now disband or become inactive. The ladies have decided that the food depot will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, at St. Cuthbert's Hall, from 10 to 11 a.m. ' Gifts of food and clothing will be most gratefully received. Mrs. Lyons, Mrs. Meyer, and Miss Bado have been elected to manage this work. ■■■■>■ Tho Inter-church Social Committee desires to thank the local baker, butchers, storekeepers, and greengrocers for their liboral gifts, which have beon of material help. Also to thank the parents of tho children attending the Bcrhampore, State School for their gifts of vegetables j and a very big circle of individuals and families for gifts of brfead and ■ other goods. All workers arc thanked for their unceasing interest and really hard toil.
