. (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")

CHRISTGHURCH, This Day.

The Mejhven , Trotting Club's Annual Meeting, which is to be held to-morrow, promises to be a very successful fixture. The classes are all on the slow side, affording a chance for owners to educate maiden performers and others who' have done either little racing or have not yet shown

much form. In some of the events the fields are so large that there may bo some difficulty in effecting, an equitable start, although the course is a large one. OPENING DAY TO-MORROW

New Zealand racing interest will be extended further afiekLthan the Dominion to-morrow, for at Randwick the opening day of the Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meeting will be staged. Racing ut this meeting is the special mission of the Dominion horses now in Australia, and there is certain to be representation in every race except the hurdles. The main attractions to-morrow are the A.J.C. Derby, the Epsom Handicap, and the Spring Stakes. For the Derby it is predicted that the New Zealand-bred Ammon Ra will be one of the hottest favour- | ites on record, nevertheless in some quarters there is lack of confidence in his ability to see out the mile and a half. The Epsom Handicap, one mile, numbers j in its field several New Zealanders, including Autopay, Gesture, and Love Song, and also Stately (ex-N.Z.).- The favourites appear to be Pentheus, Waugoola, Legislator, Burracootboo, Cathmar, Sir Duninaid, and Autopay. The Spring Stakes, Vk miles,- at standard- weight-for-age, is expected to provide Phar Lap with another easy win. ; His main opponents will be The Dimmer; Chide, and Concentrate. There are three other events to-morrow, these being: The Hurdle Race, about two miles, which contains the Dominion-bred Prince Otto and' Second Thought; the Trial Stakes, 1% miles, for which Lavington, Koda Pen, and Pateena have probably accepted; and the Kensington Handicap, seven furlongs, for which the entries included Oratorian, My Talisman, Gold Day, Chief Joy, and Ten. New Zealand-owned horses failed to win a race on the first day last year, but the Dominion-bred Phar Lap scored in the Spring Stakes from Nightmarch and Conecntrate. First Acre was second in a division of the Kensington Handicap, and the Dominion-bred Veilmond was second to Tregilla in the Derby. The Epsom was i won by Cathmar from Holdfast, Killarney, ' and Waugoola, the unplaced 'Dominion-, owned horses being First Sight, White . Fang, and Vali. I The second day of the meeting will be held on Monday, when the events are: The Shorts, six furlongs; the Breeders' Plate, for two-year-olds, five furlongs; the Metropolitan, one mile and five furlongs; the Centennial Park Handicap, six furlongs; the Grantham Stakes, for three and four-year-olds, nine furlongs; and the Squatters' Handicap, 1% miles. The third day is on Wednesday, and the final day on the Saturday.
