Police and summons cases were dealt with, to-day by Mr. E. Page,. S.M.^ , Looking over the fence of,a coal yard early .this morning, -a police sergeant saw James Arthur White, a wa;tersider, aged 51, with half a sack of coal and filling it with more. White did, not know he was observed until he went to get over the fence. He then tipped the coal back. When charged with stealing the coal, valued at Is 9d, the property of A. E. Rndman, White pleaded guilty and was fined £2, in default fourteen days' imprisonment. ■■'»'■■ On- a charge of obtaining a pair of shoes and £6 4s 9d in money by false pretences, Albert Edward Way, a chef, aged 47, for whom Mr. C. H. Arndt appeared, was remanded until Wednesday next. Having deserted irom the s.s. Rimutaka on 24th April, 1929, John Henry Luck Wright, aged 23, was arrested at Wellington yesterday. When he appeared' before Mr. Page, Sub-Inspector Lopdell said that since the' accused had deserted the ship had been sold. The company had been put to the expense of issuing a warrant. The Magistrate fined the acoused £2 and ordered him to pay Court costs and the-expenses incurred. Sidney Hunter and George A.: Brown were each fined £2 for being found on licensed premises after- hours. ■• A' warrant was issued for the arrest of Ronald Frederick M'BfMe, who failed to appear when, he was charged with three offences of theft.
