MEETING ABANDONED
MASTERTON RACING CLUB
(By Telegraph,) (Special to "The Evening Post.") MASTERTON, This Day. In view of the financial position of the Masterton Racing Club, tho mem* bors decided at a special meeting hold yesterday not to hold the October Meeting, and, if later considered advisable, to cut out the Autumn-Meeting also. The club,! however^ is to', carry oil, and members are to bo requested to pay their subscriptions as usual. "No club can race to-fday aud show a profit, on n 17 per cent, totalisator tax," said Mr. R. 0. Smith, who considered that the Government would meet the clubs in some way. The chairman (Mr. A. S. Lawson) said the club paid £2400 to the Government last year in taxes. Ho considered that the Government was not going to let the Masterton Club, in common with other 'clubs, go out of, existence, and thus lose taxation. The! Government, ho contended,- must give somo relief. There wero dozens of others in a worse position than Ma&terton. It was held that thcro was no possibility of running tho October- Meeting at a profit. I
