COMMITTEE'S INQUIRY

The Investigation Conimitteoof the Wellington Hospital Board has completed its inquiries, and presented its report to the board, in committee, this afternoon. Tho report is a document of nearly 100 typewritten pages. On the 2Sth May, on the motion of Dr. E. Campbell Begg, the following committee was appointed to mako a thorough inquiry into the hospital administration and report on any measures possible to reduce expenditure or increase efficiency: Dr. D. M. Wilson, Mrs. P. :lVascr, Messrs. A. T. Markman, J. C. Eiddell, A. J. M'Curdy, G. Petheriek, and Dr. 11. Campbell Begg. At tho first meotlug of the committee, Dr. Begg was elected chairman. During the intervening threojuionths tho committee has taken voluminous evidence with regard to all -'.depart-ments-of-the hospital. -:; In anticipation of the necessity for reducing expenditure, economies have j already been effected in several departments. It is understood that certain changes recommended by the committee in respect to the medical department are- oa lines approved by the board's professional. advisers. Eeforms 'are , also contemplated in the i-ray, dental, and other sections.The report, as stated, was presented to the board in committee, and in order to enable all the members to carefully peruse the numerous proposals made, it is intended to defer the discussion till ft later date.
