GENERAL GODLEY'S COAT OF ARMS
General Sir Alexander Godley, G.C.B. who commanded the New Zealandei-s in the Great Wur, and is at present Governor of Gibraltar, has been given a stall in the Chapel of the Order of the Bath (King Henry VII. Chapel) in Westminster Abbey.. In these stalls the banners are hung and the coats-of-arms.of Knights Grand Cross of the Order are placed. Writing to a friend in Now Zealand, Gonoral Godley says: "For my coat-of-arms I had to decide upon supporters, and yon will, I hope, be. interested and pleased to see from the photograph which I enclose that as one of my supporters I chose' a Aew Zealand infantry soldier, thus, I hope, showing how much I attribute the good fortune and success which has attended niy military career to my close connection with the New Zealand Army, and to having had the honour to command the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the field." It may also be mentioned that it has been arranged that General Godloy's banner shall1 hang and his coat-of-arms be. placed in the stall next to that of Lord Kilbracken, the head of his family, who is the son of John Robert Godley, the founder of Canterbury, and who spent his early infancy iii the Dominion.
