FORMER NEW ZEALANDER
■The death occurred at Sydney last week of Mr. F. W. Copmbes, stipendiary steward to the Australian Jockey Club. Mr. Coombes was well known' in New Zealand, having been a sporting writer in Auckland and also in Wellington. He was also an authority on coursing, having '■ acted as judge for the Avondale and Auck- • land Coursing Clubs, while he was the • first secretary of the New South. Wales . Coursing Club. He was at one time honorary secretary to the Royal New Zea- , land Yacht Squadron and Auckland Tennis . Club, while he was also closely connected ' with the Auckland Amateur Athletic Club. ' Mr; Coombes recently made a trip to New Zealand.
