For the purpose of establishing; a children's play area in Petone the sum'of £137 was some time ago contributed by.various local firms, and: this year the Petone Borough Council placed..£so on the: estimates.for the-purpose.:.'."■.''.■■ . : :;- Permission has'inow been given by the council for this work to be done; aiid it will begin next .week.'. The area'will be situated in the .Becreation'. Ground", on-.'the gentle slope immediately to. ;the. left of the Buick street entrance, and' though the apparatus will be well spaced there will be plenty of room for addition. The apparatus to be installed will comprise a islide, a rock-a-bye, a sand pit, see-saws, and swings, and possibly a merrygo-rourid. Piping.^timber,' concrete, and other, mar terials will be purchased by the'council and will be assembled by unemployed men. Only the'ciKtistructioir of a merrj'-go'-Tound isibeyond their capabilities, and if a merry-go-round is provided it will have to be bought.
