AUCKLAND TAXI WAR
REQUEST FOR CONTROL APPEAL TO TRANSPORT BOARD (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Representatives of the three largest taxi companies in Auckland waited on the Transport Board to-day and asked the board to assume control of all taxis, fix maximum and minimum fares, and restrict the number of taxis operating. They alleged that drivers were working all hours, and many were found asleep in cabs through fatigue. They contended that the public should bo safeguarded. There were 370 cabs licensed in Auckland, and the deputation represented 200 of them. The board set up a committee to report. One member's suggestion that no action/ be taken found no supporter. Tho taxi companies' request follows the renewal of the fare-cutting war announced at the end of last week.
