WOMAN LIBELLED
LETTER TO EMPLOYERS
DAMAGES AWARDED
! (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) I PALMEKSTON N.,. This Day. Tho heaving was concluded in the Supreme Court to-day of an alleged libel'caso in which a widow, Florence Margaret Baker, cleric, Danncvirke County Council, claimed £500 from Osgood and Drury, motor-cyclo importers, and Stanley Osgood, , director of the firm, as the outcome of a letter written by Osgood jto the chairman of tho council.
His Honour Mt. Justice Keed said it was clear that the statements in' the letter were libellous, and it was also clear that they were entirely untrue, as the defendant Osgood admitted in the bos. As the statements in the letter had .not been widespread, and those who heard them exonerated the plaintiff, his Honour held it was not a case for heavy damages, and gave judgment for £50 against both the defendants. •
