WOMAN BAG-SNATCHER
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Admitting six chargeSj of theft of handbags, involving £30, Alico Beatrice Tootell (38), a , married woman, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment by Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M. According to the police tho was a bag smitcher who worked to a system, but tried it once too often.
•The polieo said 'that the 'woman's practice was to go to the showroom of a drapery firm, and 'poke about, trying on a hat or coat and wait her chance while someone else was being served. She would then pick up tho customer's bag and mako off. She was caught through tendering in a shop a cheque which she had taken from a bag she had stolen, and payment of which had been stopped. In many cases the bags were taken from people who could ill afford to lose them. The woman was married, and had five children. She had not been beforo the Court previously. ■ *
