The Carbine line in Australia is to receive an addition •by the importation of the "fi\e-year-old.hoise The Bastard, who is by Spiou Kop,' a son of' Spearmint 'and grandson of Carbine. Spearmint and Spicui Kop both wonthe Derby, aiid-the-latter's son, L'elstead, is also included among winners of the great English classic. The Bastard was a fair performer as a three 'and four-year-old. In the earlier term lie won the Stetchworth Stakes, one mile and a half, at Newmarket (July), the Warren Handicap, five furlongs and a half, at Sando-svn Park, and the Southfield Handicap, one mile and a half, at Newmarket (October). Last season he walked over for The Whip, two miles and 118 yards, at Newmarket (May), and' Subsequently won the Yorkshire 'Cup, two miles. • - > ,
