SUSPENDED DRILLING

OMATA OIL WELL STOPS

Drilling has been suspended at the Omata oil well, New Plymouth, the property of Coal, Oil (N.Z.), Ltd. The well fa drllM to. 3400 ft. On instructions by cablegram from thp head office of the company in Sydney, received on Wednesday, the manager, Mr. D. J. Tyman, ceased work nest day. Messrs. Scott Gandy, Wellington, report that a small staff has been retained to attend to necessary duties, and the chief drilling engineer has been instructed to proceed to Sydney to confer with the directors in regard to future operations. Recent drilling has been retarded by mechanical difficulties, always possible with deep drilling, but on the other hand, the drilling to date is reported as having shown exceedingly favourable oil evidences, and it is expected that the present stoppage will be of a temporary nature only.
