FIRST-CLASS YACHTS

MAY LEAVE WELLINGTON

Negotiations are pending for the purchase by Mr. Tracy Gough, of Christchurch, of tho crack Wellington racing yacht Marangi,' which, for the past ten seasons, without a Wreak, has won the first-class championship of the Eoyal Port Nicholson Yacht Club. The Marangi has also won the keelers' ■ championship of the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor-boat Club for the past two seasons, during which she has belonged to both clubs. She is the present holder of the Mills Cup, tho premier trophy of tho Eoyal Port Nicholson Yacht Club. The Marangi was built at Auckland in 1910, and was launched the following year, remaining on the Waitemata until 1920, when she was purchased by Mr. Berkeley Clark, who sailed her to Wellington. For eight years Mr. Clark sailed the Marangi on Wellington Harbour with remarkable success. Phe was taken over two and a half years ago by Mr. P. Scott Kamsay, of Wellington, and since then has continued to add to her laurels, despite the burdens imposed upon her by handicappers. It is rumoured that another firpt-class Wellington yacht, the Ailsa, will shortly be changing hands, having found a purchaser in Auckland. This report is stated on good authority to be well founded. If both the Marangi, and the Ailsa leave Wellington first-class yachting will be robbed of much of its interest, since the two yachts can always be depended upon to provide an interesting contest when they moot in club races.
