EASTBOURNE'S AFFAIRS
The monthly meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor (Mr. S. F. Fisher) presided, and there were also present Councillors J. F. Rockstrow, E. N. Battersby, Margaret Magill, A. Varney, W. F. Hornig, A. Wai- j ker, C. A. Rendle, and E. W. Wise. ! . A letter from the Director of Town Planning asking the council to pass a resolution to unite with other local authorities in -the preparation of a regional planning scheme was held over for consideration at the next meeting. Traffic returns''for June, with figures for June, 1930, in pai'entheses, were presented as follows:—Muritai: Number of round trips, 31 (82); total distance steamed, 465 miles (1230); oil fuel used, 18 tons (35); number of passengers carried, 12,896 (17,983). Cobar: Number of round trips, 132 (24%); total distance steamed, 1980 miles (367); coal used, 58% tons (12 tons); number of passengers carried, 11,526 (2G50). During the month the buses ran 49V trips to Wellington and 29 single boat trips, covering 18,687 miles and using 2072 gallons of benzine. A falling off in revenue from the ferry and bus services during the last three months was notified by the Town Clerk (Mr. C. L. Bishop) in his monthly report. He said that the ferry revenue fell by approximately £300, and the bus revenue by £350, while the expenditure in both departments had been approximately the same as for the same period last year. The present year was likely to be a difficult one for the ferry department. The decrease in revenue in both departments in June was not great.
