GOVERNOR'S POWERS
SYDNEY, 13th July.
The<pcople of New. South Wales ars anxiously'waiting the Dominions Office'! ruling with regard to the Governor* refusal to allow the Lang Government to swamp the Legislative Council with. Labour appointees. .
The consensus .of opinion, according to the Press, is that the Dominions' Office will decline to interfere.
Some of Mr. Ijang's Ministers shara thin view, which is strengthened by »■/ private cablegram received from tha New South Wales Agent-General, Mr* A. C. Willis. ■ . .'
A report is. current that Mr. Lang has contemplated another quarrel with, the Upper House. Ho is known to bo prelpaiiugi a measure reducing thai higher salaries of public officers to * £500 maximum. >
Members of the Upper House already) have described the measure" as impos* sible, and they say they have no alter* native but to throw it out, as they araf powerless to amend it. f, ■ . V
