LAKE DAM BREAKS

FLOODS IN RIVERINA

DISASTER THREATENED

TOWNS DOWNSTREAM

(United Press Association—By Electric Tele.

graph—Copyright.) (Received 14th July, noon.)

SYDNEY, This Day.

The retaining wall of the dam on Lake Urana is fractured in three places and tons of water are pouring through tho breaks, flooding tho already overflowing Billabong Crock and Edward River. Unless the flow is chocked in time, this means disaster for the towns of Moulamein, Cobargo, and Jcrilderie. Whether the breaks wero made by the pressure of the water or by anxious townspeople to save their homes is unknown. Last night water entered the streets of Moulamein, which is more than a hundred miles from Urana. A number of homes were invaded by the flood waters. A moro serious flood is expected in'a few days.

Lake Urana is a large artificial reservoir'in the Biverina almost equidistant between the Murrumbidgee and the Murray Rivers. Jcrildcrie, Cobargo, and Moulamehr are towns lower down on the Billabong Creek and Edward River.
