SYDNEY TURF NOTES

M. M'CARTEN HITS FORM

(From "Vedette.)

SYDNEY, Sth July.

M. M'Carten is riding in good form at present. He scored two wins at Moorefield on Saturday, one efloit being a iirst-class exhibition, This was on the New Zealand-bied Observatory, in G. Price's stable. This three-yeai old is a rare track galloper, but most unceitam in races. M'Carten rode him to the front in a mile and a quailei maiden event, and did not give him a chance to loaf oi change his mind. As it ivas, he gust scrambled home by <i nanow margin, and is hkely to make his next move into the sale ring. The well-known hotting tiainer, W. J. Tomkmson, is at present on a visit to Sydney. He was at the Mooicneld Meeting on Saturday, but as the cyclonic rains have put an end to all racing since the week-end he has not been able to attend a trotting meeting. The stipendiary stewards put another hmdle-nder and trainer out of action ior twelve months m connection with the limping of Scottish March at Moorcfield on Saturday. Scottish Maich, i\<is a winnei a week earlier, peifoimed most indiffeiently at Moorefield. A Cololun (rider) and F. Mpoie weic disqualified, but the owner was exoneiatcd. G. Price expected his Legionnane filly, Lady Magadi, to race well at Mooiefield, but she was not suited by the tiack. A smart galloper m private, fehe should win her chare of races. WILD TIME'S FAILURE. G. "Young supplied a heavilj-bickcd failme at Moorefield in the Catmint—Shebang filly Wild Time, fornierly tiamcd by J. T. Jamieson. She had 7st 51b in a second division of a tual btakes, and was literally backed "off the map." She is still on the small side, being only thieequarters of ah inch outside 14.2 class, and in a biggish field she met with enough tiouble to prejudice her chance Hei foiulh place suggested a meabure of amends before long. i Two year-olds had a run over a mile here at Moorefield on Saturday. The race was won by Version, a gelding by The Verderer. Thero was a good deal of interference in the straight, due to tiling youngsteis rolling about, and it looked as if Version was lucky to beat both Sassanedes (by Legionnaire) and Flying Homer (by Rosewmg). T-no two > ear olds are erigaged m a mile and a quartei maiden handicap at Rosehill next Saturday, an early test for stamina amongst horses FmsfyACßE:, SPRINTS. : vFirs'ti^ Acre.-.turn'edr on s'ohie speed amongst the open sprinters at Moorefield, a 71b allowance reducing his 9st 41b to Bst ~lllb. He did not drop far behind :ataany; stagey Wen"thdugh a recognised speed-merchant in Tom Pinch set a solid pace;and won. First Acre was going great-guns in sixth place, an encouraging performance even though he was hardly the.equine Beau Brummel of the field. : The three-year-old Bells of Sliandon is showing improved form on the track at Raridwick. Ho had a run at Moorefield, but did not Ehow up for his apprentice rider. Ring Boy, regarded as a really good welter horse up to a mile, finished well to dead-heat for first at a mile and a quarter at Moorefield, a sprinters' course. He was lucky, possibly, to share first prize for the apprentice ,on Trenette was more tired than his mount at :the finish, and it looked as if Trenetto should have won outright. , Bad weather has played havoc with the training tracks this week, many of them being under water. The Gosford Meeting has been abandoned, and trots and pony meetings postponed until .next week. Mr. T. H. Lowry arrived from New Zealand recently. As- he is the owner of Simba's sire, - Psychology, he was interviewed, but beyond stating that Simba was a good horse, had nothing to say. Traymobile and Kahukura were amongst the failures at Moorefield.

Traymobile is a useful welter horse and ran a fair race, but Kahakura will require careful placing to pay his way.
