The "Evening Post" team met the WellingWorklng. Men's Club last week on the former club's range In the B Grade competition. The visitors wore successful, scoring flvo more points than the homo team. This is The Post's" second loss this season, and alters their rather promising position on the compotltlon table. There were two new members in the team, but this should have made little or no difference, as the Worltlng Men s Club' included two "allots" from. Its C Grade. More concentration and practice seem essential If the "Evening Post" wants to make :a better showing. The evening ended with supper and speeches from the'two captains,. Mr; G. Walker and Mr. H. Nickless. V HUTT VALLEY LADIES' CLUB. A very pleasant evening was spent on Tuesday last, the occasion being the lntercluu match against tho Aotea Rifle Club, which resulted- in a win for tho ladles, who compiled the very excellent seoro of 471. Congratulations go to Mrs. Taylor'on her'splendid performance In gaining the coveted "possible ' The Bakewell Medal and Presidents-Button monthly competition was fired during April, May, and June, the winners being :—Bakewell' "Medal, April, Mrs. Nightingale, with Mrs. laylor runner-up; May, Mrs. Nightingale, with Mrs. Nicholas runner-up; Juno, Mrs. Nightingale, with Mrs. Lusty, .runner-up. President a Button: April. Miss Johnson, with Mrs. l'trost runner-up; May, Mrs. Ffrost, with Miss Wall runner-up;. June, Mrs. ■Ff rost, with Mrs. Johnson runner-up. ,',.-.. ■ - ' - ■Tho second competition was fired during last month. It was responsible for some remarkably good shocting. Mrs. Taylor won tho A Grade, with Mrs. May runner-up, and the B Grade honours went to Mrs. Ffrost, with M 133 Myra Johnson a '.first-year member, runiior-up. . KARORI CLUB. Karorl spent an enjoyable evening last Wednesday, on the occasion of tho B Grade intorclub match with the Hutt Ladies. A win by a small margin was scored, but tho scoring was a little erratic on both sides. Tho • ladles are to be complimented1 on turnIng out in such full force in tho weather conditions prevailing. . : ■•■-."■ Mrs. Rushton (of tho visitors) secured the highest score In the match, a GO. The teams' scores were:—Hutt Ladies, 'IST; Kamri B, 481; .'-■.. . '■•■ Tho weekly trophy went to L. A. Caldwell, with a 69. R. Drake, L. J. Drake, Bv'C. Morgan, and B. C. H. Roekol tied for the handicap weekly trophy with 69 each, but Rockel received it with the highest gun score. A new member, K. vD. Kobertson, who shows great promise, got a 87 with, his first, shoot. This Is particularly meritorious, considering he has not shot on a range before. LOWER HUTT LADIES' CLUB. Mrs. Rushton secured the first "possible" of the season, a due reward for good, consistent shooting. A team of C Grade shots who had not previously competed In iriterclub matches met the Fetone Ladies' C Grade team In a friendly match, and se'eurod a meritorious win," it total of 446, which is good shooting for these young shots, some of whom are firstyear ladles. Mrs. Orr made a good 66, and if-she continues along these lines sbo bids fair to become an excellent team shot. The team much appreciated the hospitality extended ,to them' by the Petone Ladies' Club IB their comfortable range, as well as the sportsmanship of the entire club. ' ■' The O. Cuing Silver Brooch, donated for competition among C Grade competitors, is now to be given to the lady who secures the highest score in these interclub friendly matches. Miss N. Howe Is the first winner. A now diversion on the range theso days^is the ping-pong table, which is a source'of great .enjoyment, especially among the younger set. j A tournament is proceeding, and the process'of I elimination proceeds apace. "Pop" Ching, tho popular coach, is one of tho keenest competitors. His ping-pong, like his shooting, is A grade; he is himself as hard a nut to crack over the net as on the mound. To relievo the-strain on the indefatigable secretary, Mrs. Murray, whose duties this-year are multifarious, Miss Itita Lawrcnco lias been appointed reporter for the season. PETONE LADIES' CLUB. A pleasant time was spent -last week, when 0 Grade members of tho Hutt Ladies' Club were entertained. In tho match fired the shooting vvaa *of a very high standard for C Grade shots, tho Hutt Ladies doing particularly well and winning tho match with a total sooro of 446 (an average of 63.7) against 418. For tho Hutt Ladies, Mrs. Orr and Miss Howe had the highest score with G6 each, and Mrs. Hobbs, of the Petono Ladies' Club, scored 66. Tho final, round of tho competition for the trophy presented by Mrs. Marsdpn was fired on Wednesday night. This comncfition, wjijoh was, fired 'under an "own start" handicap and covered two nights' shooting, was keenly contested, Mrs. Johnstono and Misa'Pratley tying with a total scoro of 130, closely followed by Mrs. Bryan and Mrs. Hobbs with a total score of 138 each. Mrs. Johnstono and Miss PratIcy win are off, under the samo handicaps, on Wednesday next. .A further competition will ho commenced nc^t week for trophies presented by Mr. Aldridge and tho club. P.W.M.C. LADIES' CLUB. The members of tho Petone Working Men's Uub Ladles Club liavo completed two competitions, in which the shooting on an average was very good. It is pleasing to sco tho lower grade members winning trophies, which Is evidence of keenness and enthusiasm in the effort to do well. Tho following are the resnlts of the two competitions :—First competition: Mrs. Cleaver, 1; Mrs. Davies, 2; Mrs lerrall, 3. Second competition: Mrs. Ward l; Mrs. Cleaver, 2; Mrs. Wales. 3. In the championship aggregate tho members are making good scores, only one or two points being between several of tho members in both tho A and B Grades. "Possibles" have been Fmm n by 3i' aS • I-" Sty' Mrs' 'Fullcr' and «"• Jimmett. An invitation from tho Harbour Hoard to a friendly match on 20th July has been accepted; one and all lire looking forward to a really Rood evening, the Harbour Board Club being recognised as excellent hosts. 1 FLINCHING. "Flinching is overcoms by oxperieuee and regular practice. A good'method of preventing ( It is to practice aiming with the rifle empty, keeping the eye opeu during the release _of the'trigger'and. endeavouring to have the rifle still directed "at the same point of iiim after the trigger has been released. Practice in this will show the beginner how, useful .it is; It might also show him how some of his shots go astray. It' certainly. helps to overcome- 'gun-shyuess,' an ailment which affects not only beginners'hut also those who do not attend the range regularly." H. V.
