ROAD CYCLING
SENIORS AND JUNIORS
Two events were held under ideal conditions by the Port Nicholson Amateur Cycling Club,, Inc. (N.Z.U.C.) on Saturday afternoon. Eleven juniors started in a five miles race, which was keenly contested and resulted in C. More (2min) winning by 20 yards from L. Barnes, with W. Roffe third. Fastest time was made by_T. Udall (scr), lOminSOsec. J. Elliott gained second fastest time, llmin 25sec, and C. Walker, llmin 25 l-ssee, third.
The senior riders rode 23 miles. There were 20 riders. The position at Miramar Wharf was: Warr Williams (Bmin), Barnes (9%min), followed 23see later by Wiblin (s%min), Black (7min), and Udall (s%min), who punctured at this stage. Next were Ulmar (4min), Campbell (4% mm), M'Cabe (4%min), each of which was going well. They were followed by Doigc, Grant, and Amos, each separated by about three-quarters of a minute. Wright and Blackett (2min) had lost lmin 7sec to Foote (scr), who had gained 3min 50sec on the leaders. His time for the 13% miles was 42min 23see.
The sprint for the line at the finish was a good one, L. Barnes winning by a wheel frqm'E. Williams, with L. Warr a close third. B. Wiblin rode an excellent race, finishing fourth, and making second fastest time, 57min 57sec. J. Foote crossed the line a length ahead of S. Wright, with F. Blackett inches behind. ' Foote's time of 56min 6 2-ssec was the fastest. The winner surprised onlookers when he said he had pedalled a 67in gear.
