SECOND ROUND: HUTT STILL LEADING

Grounas were in a heavy state on Saturday afternoon, ana only the senior, junior, and third grade championship competitions were continued. In the senior A grade some good performances were registered, although the results generally were as expected, leaving Hutt in-the lead, with Pomjke and Wellington a close second. Marist were not easily conquered by Wellington in the game tit Athletic Park, and a fine performance on Wellington's part was necessary to win the dny, especially as Marist again gave evidence'of their capabilities , in the matter of causing upsets. All-rovmd team work, with the backs ■ persistently striving hard to roach the. objective, gave Wellington ■victory in a game which supplied good measure of attractive football. ■ Poneke and Eastbourne met at New town Park, and the contest served to show that Poneke, in spite of their previous defeat, are, with .Wellington. and Hutt, still, strong contenders for the championship title. Hutt's position was maintained by a good win o'/er Wellington College Old Boys at the Hutt Eacreation Ground. The other games were closely contested, and provided plenty of excitement for the onlookers. Petone won narrowly from University in a good scoring game at Petone, and Berhampore registered their first win by a narrow margin over Miramar in a relief fund benefit at Miramar. There was only one score—a try— in the Athletic-Oriental match at Prince of Wales Park, and this was registered by Oriental.
