OLD BOYS' ASSOCIATION
The annual meeting of the Scots College Old Boys' Association wag held yesterday, Mr. I. M. Plimmer presiding. ' Members commended the method which allows of life-membership on payment; of a single amount instead of yearly ■subscriptions. ... . /■' • The annual report stated that the total membership was now 150, of whom 124 were life members and 26 ordinary members. The committee appealed for new members, particularly from those leaving the college. The oratory.contest had been held, at the college. Two old boys were judges, and it was hoped that future contests would be controlled by the association in the same manner-. The annual re- , union and dance proved a great success. The football team formed last year had quite a successful season for a new team, but. there were so few players offering at the beginning of the new season that the team had to be withdrawn. ' Certain additions and . amendments to the rules were agreed to, one of the additions being that the executive should not have power to expend more than £15 without the permission of a general meeting, ..'•'. ; Pleasure at the proposed formation of a branch of the association at Palmerston North was expressed by members. .-.'/' The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr. J. R. Sutcliffe; president, Mr. A. B. Hurley; vice-presidents, Messrs. C. W. Budd, J. G. Brechin, J; B. Lauchlan, J. T. Martin, L. R. M'Kelvie, A. P. Smith, P. C Watt, C. W..Black, and J. Poster; hbn. secretary, Mr. T. E. Ennis; hon. treasurer, Mr. I. J. Mackersey; executive committee, Messrs. ■J. F. Living, C. T. Macarthur, H. N. Robieson, E. J. Scotland, G. Bedding, J. M'Kelvie, and L M. Plimmer. : ' ' . At the conclusion of the annual meeting, the annual reunion and dinner was held. There' were about ninety present, ■including Mr. A. P. Smith, chairman of the Board of Governors, P. C. Watt, deputy-chairman, and Messrs. A.. J. Leuchars, W: M. King, C. W. Budd, C. Evans-Scott, D. Virtue, of the Board of Governors, H. B. Townsend, L. M. Schrader, C. J. Clarke, F. Flipp, W. L. Cross, of the Parents' Associatoion, J. R. Sutcliffe, principal of the college, A.: H. Fear, representing the Wairarapa: Boys' High School, school masters> and prefects. The following toasts were honoured: "The King," "Absent Old Boys," proposed by Mr.- T. E. Ennis; "The School," proposed by Mr. J. Foster, and replied to by Mr. J. R. Sutcliffe; "The Board of Governors," proposed by Mr. C. Macarthur and replied to by Mr. A. P. Smith; "The Parents' Association," proposed by Mr. C. Evans-Scott and replied to by Mr. C. S. Black; . and "Kindred Associations," proposed by Mr. R. T. C. Fraser and replied to by Mr. A. H. Fear and Mr. J... C. White (M'Glashan College); and •The Retiring President." Reference was made to the redemption i of the mortgage on the college, and it was Btated that old boys would probably be asked to take out an endowment life assurance policy for 15 years to meet the mortgage when it fell due. Musical items, including pianoforte and bagpipe solos, were given.
