TO HELP THE COUNTRY
FARMERS' PROPOSAL
.A. recommendation that a national committee should be set up to consider present-day matters was made by the New Zealand Farmers 3 Union conference yesterday. The recommendation was made by a committee which nad been set up to consider the- questions raisec! in the address of the president, Mr. W. J. Poison, M.P. Mr. Poison said that the committee should represent all interests "witlr definite ideas that should be hammered out by representatives of all sections of the community before being finalised. Any scheme would have to have the approval of the Government before, anything could be done. ■ ■ V'- \. ■ The conference approved of the recommendation, which is as follows: , That tJiis conference is of the definite opinion that in this time of world depression it is vitally necessary for the future well-being of the country that a national committee with .Cabinet representation, combined With representatives of the primary, financial, commercial, and industrial interests, be established for the purpose of:— (1) Examining plans for the future development of the country's production and trade. : . ' ■ . . (2) Making an exploration ot the possibilities of new markets and increased cfth-iciK-y in .industry. ~ . . (.".) Ensuring the close co-operation of State, financial, business, and producing interests in a long-term plan; and (4) Providing tho setting-up of reserves in times of prosperity for the security of employment iii times of reduced .productivity.
