RACES FOR NOVICES
TRENTHAM NEXT WEEK
The Trial Plate and Novice Handicap, run on the" second aiid third" days respectively, of the Wellington, Meeting, and •for';, horses:-.thaty at time of nomination won a,race, exceeding the value of, £100 toithe .winiicr,'always attract good -fields, aiid"much interest is usually taken iv,- 'thorn with'vi/owriOrs;; lot promising youngsters. .The former'race is for horses of. all ages,, but;tho latter is jiow for two arid''three-year-olds'only ft' Both are run over six furlongs. In, recent years, strangely, the Trial Plate has several titues been..won by. two-year-olds,.', Toseuma;,* Lady •vLiiiiond,;; and Rascal 'being among' tho number, but'the division has not had a: success in tho Novice Stakes,-'which the---record- shows' to have been won consistently by three-year-olds., • ,; . '.'. .., :„ .•;-.
The' three-year-old section is strongly represented in the Trial Plate again this year, but the .'two-year-olds also comprise a very promising lot, and it is quite, possible that one, of-their number will provide the winner yet another time. Among the most likely, of them arc Bel voir, Ruling Light, Actaeon, .Zeebrugge, Childstudy, Interlocutor, Fiji, Croupier, Royal Hunting, and Curio.
One whose Tunning will be invested with a lot of interest locally is Actaeon, the brother to False Scent, ivho-has had only -ou'ei. raceftto date,' in'-the Trial Plato at Masterton in May, and finished third to 'Thrasher (a . three-year-old) and Childstudy, after being chopped back .when running through strongly near tho post. Actaeon was bought by Mr. W. R. Kemball for 300 guineas at the Jcfferd dispersal sale in April.- He ,is a, very powerfully built youngster, and has come on a lot in his work since the Masterton, fleeting. Although he may not win next week,, he is sure to go well, and he should not be far away at the' finish. It is likely that he will be Mr. Kcmball's main string in next season's ' three-year-old classics, and his. performances'next week are being .loqked to for,an indication as, to,his pros."pectsftof: success.
