BLAZING WELL
Joszcf richildzong, secretary to the Hungarian Firemen's Association, and two collaborators have boon awarded the ftprixo of £50,000 offered by the American i?omana Petroleum Oil Company, for tho extinguishing 4 of, the fire in the Moreno petrol'well in' Rumania. Tho means by which the, fire was extinguished was a powder which. Mr. Schildzong, and his friends invented last year,'but which, owing to lack ofmeans, thoy were unable to test to any satisfactory extont. Tho Moreno petrol well ignited three years ago, and since then it has consumed daily thousands of pounds worth of petroleum. The column -of fire rose to a height of 240 metres, and as tho heat in''its neighbourhood was 3200 degrees .Celsius, it was impossible to get near'enough to .smother:'it;-i-Attempts. were made to bomb the earth near it with aeroplanes, aiid alsft'tddrop bombs filled with extinguishing" gases on top of it.
