ACCLIMATISATION

QUAIL FOR BREEDING

Tho monthly meeting of the council of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society was held last night, tho chairman (Mr. L. O. H. Tripp) presiding.

The game committee recommended the purchase of quail for breeding at PaTaparaumu, and also for liberation. Mr. Tripp reported that it had been decided by tho finance committee to spend a sum in this direction. Inquiries had so far proved fruitless, but it was hoped to hear something definite from Taihape shortly through the Auckland Society.

Mr. Seed said that quail were plentiful in the Pungapunga valley, near Taumarunui, in country which was too heavily covered for shooting with success, but excellent for trapping. A gentleman in tho locality had expressed the opinion that 100 could be secured.

Dr. Anson said ho had heard that quail eggs would bo more easily obtained. Settings under bantams would thrive.

It was decided to expend up to £100 in securing quail. The chairman offered to investigate the restrictions existing on the importation of foreign birds. ♦
