A TAXI CAB ABUSE
NO PROVISION IN BILL
"There is no provision in the Bill dealing with the matter," stated tho Minister of Transport (tho Hon. \V. A. Veitch) in the1 House of Representatives last night when replying to Mr. D. G. Sullivan (Labour, Avon), who had asked whether the Transport Licensing Bill dealt with the situation that'had grown up in connection with taxi-cabs, whereby taxis wore leased to drivers who took the earnings of the cars instead of being paid under Arbitration Court wages.
As a result, said Mr. Sullivan, tho drivers had to work long hours, and he wanted to know if there was anything in the legislation which would prevent that abuse. If no. provision had been made, he invited the Minister to consider the question of incorporating a clause that would deal with tho matter.
