BRICKS—AND SECURITY SENSE

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —The ..statement published by the Hon. Minister of Education regarding the suitability of bricks for the construction of schools indicates a very laudable concern for tho safety of school children, but what of the safety' of Members of both Houses of Parliament who. meet in the new Parliamentary Buildings—the internal walls of which are almost entirely constructed of brick, whilst ;the outer walls are the product of the-stonemason. We must assume that the Hon. Minister of Education and the other members of the Legislature have either, little regard for their personal-safety or they have sufficient faith in brick and cement mortar to permit of them working and sleepingyes, sleeping-^withiu such walls. It may be that bricks- made by prison labour create a, greater sense of security and that this feeling of- safety, extends, to' the hundreds of Public servants employed in the Government Printing Office and thu St«te Fire Building.—l am, etc.,

SAFETY FIRST,
