HOCKEY SHIELD MATCHES
CHALLENGES AND DATES.

' : CHBISTCUBCH, This Day. ■ At a meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Management: Committee, the Canterbury Association forwarded, tho following as tentative, dates for v futur« shield matches:—Canterbury v.. Wai* kato, 11th: July; Canterbury v. Otag'o, Ist August; .Canterbury .v. Poverty Bay, 15th August; Canterbury v. Nelson, 29th August. The Auckland Association forwarded a challenge for the shield, conditionally upon Waikato beating Canterbury and holding the shield in subsequent matches. The Hawkes Bay Association also sent a challenge, which was accepted. : ', Arrangements for matches with Auckland and Hawkes Bay were held over.
It was decided: "That all challenges for the New Zealand Shield received this season bo considered as ■ conditional."
The Wellington senior hockey represent tativeswill play their first match of th« season against Waikato at the Basin Reserve to-morrow, commencing at 2.30 p.m. With the exception of Hamilton (Wellington Club), who replaces S. Roberts on the right wing, the lattemnot being available, the Wellington team is the sams as published on Monday evfening. . Waikato are on their way to Christchurch to play Canterbury on. Saturday \f or the New Zealand Hockey' Challenge Shield, and ara reported to be a strong combination. In the event of the Basin! Reserve being too heavy for play, the match will' probably take place at Karori Park. The referees will be Messrs. G. C. Burton (Waikato) and ■ R.. P. Staples (Wellington).
